REGISTRATION

CHT-24 Symposium will be open to presentation with a full paper and presentation-only contributions. The official language of the conference is English. Participation is open to all persons interested in this conference. Please note that all persons intending to attend CHT-24 must complete the Registration Form and should register. At least one author must be registered by April 26, 2024, for the paper to be included in the Symposium Program and available online on the Symposium website.

The symposium registration fees will be 550 Euros if paid before April 26^th, 2024; 600 Euros for advance registration after that date, and 650 Euros on-site. Full-time students will pay 250 Euros, subject to proof of status, before April 26^th, 2024; 300 Euros for advance registration after that date and 350 Euros on-site.

The fees for both delegates and students cover participation in all technical sessions, welcome cocktail, symposium proceedings (on a flash disk), book of abstracts, coffee breaks but does not include sight-seeing tours, trips, and airport transfers.

In case of cancellation after the payment, 100 Euros will be deducted from the paid registration fee and the rest will be reimbursed.

Welcome Cocktail will be at ITU Conference Center on Sunday evening, May 26th. It will start at 19:00.

There will be a social dinner with boat cruise around Bosphorus on Wednesday, May 29th. The fee is 120 Euros per person with limitless local alcohol + (show+dj+alive music). The tickets can be purchased using the registration form and payment can be made by bank transfer again. If you wish you can pay on-site at the registration desk. The location of the social dinner is Miray Company, ship name Amor at Kabatas Harbor, Istanbul. For Busses Meeting Point at İTÜ Macka Hotel to Kabatas Harbor: 19:30 PM. Some financial support will be available for students and young researchers from the developing countries, and to others with demonstrated financial difficulties. Application should be made via the website. Please check ICHMT Grants page.

The only payment method for this symposium is bank transfer. However, you can make your payment on-site at the registration desk in cash (preferably) or by credit card (debit cards & American Express card are not acceptable. Please use MasterCard or Visa for your payment). Credit Card payment fee is 4%. All fees for congress registration should be paid in EUR (€).

HALF DAY MORNING WALKING TOUR – 1 :

Pick Up Time : 09.30  ITU Macka Campus

Duration : 04 Hours

The tour starts with pick up from Macka Campus and takes about 4 hours. The first visit is to Topkapi Palace, Ottoman Sultan’s Residence, built on the slopes of Sarayburnu against Bosporus and The Sea of Marmara. Topkapi Palace is a combination of different architectural styles as built and restored in following centuries. The Palace today is world famous museum where the Ottoman Empire treasury, Dynasty clothing and Sacred Relics belonging to Divine Religions exhibited. Harem section of the Palace is optional to visit on your own with self-payment at site. The visit to the palace takes about 1.5 hours. The next visit is to Basilica Cistern (Sunken Palace) built by in the 6th century as well Byzantine Emperor Justinian with the structures taken from collapsed Roman buildings in the area. The cistern has a unique atmosphere with the Roman columns and head pillars inside. Your visit to the Cistern will take about half an hour. The final visit is to Hippodrome which was the site of chariot races, celebrations, riots, executions and other important events through Byzantine and Ottoman Empires. Hippodrome decorated with Roman, Egyptian and Ottoman monuments which are visible today. Your walk through Hippodrome takes about 45 minutes. The tour ends about 12.00 at noon time in Sultanahmet Square.

Please note that Istanbul Archeology Museum is visited on Tuesdays as Topkapi Palace is closed.

HALF DAY AFTERNOON WALKING TOUR – 2 :

Duration : 04 Hours

The tour starts with pick up from Macka Campus and takes about 4 hours. The first visit is to Hagia Sophia Museum, a master of mankind, standing since 6th century and bearing the symbols of Christianity and Islam together. Your visit will take about an hour at least including the courtyard, entrance hall, main gallery and upper gallery. Later, you will visit Blue Mosque (Sultanahmet Mosque) decorated with some of the best examples of Turkish Tiles. Built on the 17th century, Blue Mosque is a city symbol standing in the hearth of the city. The final visit is to Grand Bazaar, the most popular shopping area in the city with good quality of products such as jewelry, leather products, hand-made rugs, textile and foods. The bazaar established over a huge area with about 58 covered streets and 4000 shops. Please feel free to ask your guide help for the best tips while shopping at the local shops. The tour ends about with free time in the Bazaar. The guide is going to recommend you the best way to get your hotel. You can enjoy your time at the Bazaar as you like and it gets closed about 19.00.

BOSPHORUS BOAT AND EMINONU TOUR –  3 :

Pick Up Time : 13.30  ITU Macka Campus

Duration : 04 Hours

The tour starts with Rustem Pasha Mosque constructed by Architect Sinan and decorated with the best examples of Turkish tiles. Rustem Pasha was the the Grand Vizier of Sultan Suleiman and was married to his daughter. Later, you will walk through the Hasircilar Street leading to Spice Market (Egyptian Bazaar). This area is one of the most crowded sites of Eminonu since there are many shops selling cheese, olives, eggs, meat products, dried fruits and peddlers everywhere. You can have a short stop on your way to drink a glass of “Tursu Suyu – Pickle Juice”. There is Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi, the famous Turkish coffee store at the end of the street. This is an excellent place to but Turkish coffee in the city. Spice Market (Egyptian Bazaar) is one of the most colorful sites in the city. Once the Bazaar was the last stop of the Silk Road from where the staff carried on camels from India and Far East was delivered to Europe with ships. Today, it is still very popular among the local whom want to buy spices, delight, cheese and dried fruits. There are also shops selling souvenirs and gold. When you come out of the Spice Market, you will see Yeni Cami (so called The New Mosque or the actual name Valide Sultan Mosque) constructed in 1665. There are bird seeders in front of Mosque and the people sitting on the marble stairs viewing the Golden Horn bridge. Later, you will embark the boat for Bosporus Tour. This a large, safe and comfortable public boat with open and covered areas convenient for any weather conditions. There is also a bathroom in the boat. You may buy snacks and drinks in the boat too. The tour taking about 2 hours and you will see Ciragan Palace, Beylerbeyi Palace, Bosporus Bridges, Maiden’s Tower and fabulous Ottoman Yalis (sea-side Mansions) during your tour. Your guide will be with you on the yacht to give you information about the places you see on the tour. The boat tour takes about 1.5 hours. The tour ends with free time in Eminonu from where you may either visit Spice Market again for shopping or have a walk over the Golden Horn Bridge. The guide is going to recommend you the best way to get your hotel.

SULEYMANIYE MOSQUE –  CHORA CHURCH - GOLDEN HORN TOUR –  4 :

Pick Up Time : 09.30  ITU Macka Campus

Duration : 04 Hours

Pick up from the Macka Campus for the tour. This is an ideal tour to see Golden Horn and the places to visit are not easy to reach on walk or with public transport. You will be able to see some of the most interesting places along the Golden Horn area in a half day time. The first stop is Suleymaniye Mosque, constructed by Architect Sinan by the order of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent.  This is the largest mosque complex of the city used as the Imperial Mosque and offer a gorgeous view over the Golden Horn. After the mosque, we will stop by Pierre Loti Hill named after the French Poet who gave the spot his name. There you will find a beautiful scenery of the city and peaceful location for taking a Turkish tea. The next visit is to one of the oldest and most important churches in the city - The Church of Chora - representing fascinating wall paintings which tell the life of Christ in an historical order. Even though the building itself being small, the meaning was great for Byzantines as being founded at the borders of the city and welcoming the visitors. Today the environment is restored and this is a good place to spend time with local artisans and wooden houses. Driving along the city walls, the tour will end about 12.00 noon with drop off to the hotels. For those who are interested in may drop off in Balat area and visit Orthodox Patriciate and old Jewish heritage site on their own. There is also a good restaurant run by the Municipality of Government by the water side for lunch. The surrounding area is less touristy and recommended to spend the afternoon including a walk by the sea.

The tour is not operated on Wednesdays as Chora Church is closed.

DOLMABAHCE PALACE –YILDIZ ROYAL GARDEN TOUR –  5 : 

Pick Up Time : 13.30  ITU Macka Campus

Duration : 04 Hours

Pick up from the Macka Campus. The tour starts with visiting Dolmabahce Palace located on the European coastline of Bosporus. The palace was built in the 2nd. Half of 19th century with spending of about five million Ottoman gold coins, the equivalent of 35tonnes of gold. Fourteen tones of gold in the form of gold leaf were used to gild the ceilings of the 45,000 square meter mono block palace. Dolmabahce has the largest collection of Bohemian and Baccarat crystal chandeliers in the world, and one of the great staircases of Baccarat crystal. The tour in the palace taking about 1 hour. After the Palace, the next stop is Yıldız Royal Garden. We take a walk in the imperial gardens ornamented with some kiosks and beautiful vegetation in the middle of Istanbul. There are also restaurants and coffees in the gardens to have a drink. The tour ends with drop off back to the Macka Campus about 12.00.

The tour visits Dolmabahce Cami instead of Royal Gardens in the winter times. The mosque opened in prayer for service on 1885. It is a unique mosque for being a good example to baroque style architecture.

The tour is not operated on Mondays and Thursdays as Dolmabahce Palace is closed.

ICHMT GRANTS

The Executive Committee of ICHMT will be able to offer some financial support to assist scientists and engineers to participate in its symposia. Priority will be given to students and to scientists early in their career from the Developing Countries.

Grants will normally cover the registration fee and not more than 50% of the other costs.

SCHEDULE OF DATES

PRESENTATION AND PUBLICATION

Papers will be selected for presentation and publication on the basis of a one-page initial abstract or an extended abstract or a full paper (which will be assessed to ensure relevance) followed by a review of the full papers. Presentation-only submissions will be evaluated based on the submitted abstracts without expecting a full paper submission. Proceedings will be published by Begell House Inc. on a flash disk and in the ICHMT Digital Library. Papers of archival quality may be submitted for publication in one or more special issues of the Begell House journal, Computational Thermal Sciences, or in other journals with substantial changes. At least one author needs to be registered by April 26, 2024 for the paper be included in the Symposium Program and published in the Conference Proceedings. Presentations in the Open Forum session will not be included in the Symposium Proceedings.

As the Principal Investigator (PI) of a National Science Foundation (NSF) Emerging Scientist Travel/Conference Award, I oversee the support for a limited number of graduate students and postdocs (including the foreign nationals), untenured faculty, and early career scientists from USA. This award, facilitated by the CBET Division, aims to advance computational, translational, and interdisciplinary research in radiation heat transfer engineering fundamentals and/or applications.

This initiative enables recipients to participate in the 9th International Symposium on Advances in Computational Heat Transfer (CHT-24) in Istanbul, Türkiye (Turkey), scheduled for May 26 - 30, 2024. The symposium, organized by the International Centre for Heat and Mass Transfer (ICHMT), provides a platform for exchanging insights and fostering collaboration within the scientific community.

Support will cover the conference registration fee and certain other acceptable travel expenses (e.g., airfare or hotel). The total amount provided will not exceed $2,500. Any additional costs will be expected to be covered by other sources of the awardee.

Presentation only abstract is due April 5, 2024.

Presentation only abstract acceptance is on April 19, 2024.

Early registration discount deadline is on April 26,2024.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT ICHMT

The International Centre for Heat and Mass Transfer (ICHMT) is an international, professional, non-governmental, non-profit organization. The general objective of the Centre is to promote and to foster international cooperation in the science of heat and mass transfer and its applications. Its secretariat is located at the Mechanical Engineering Department of Middle East Technical University (METU).

The first meeting of the International Centre for Heat and Mass Transfer (ICHMT) was held in Herceg Novi, Yugoslavia, on September 16, 1968, during the International Seminar on Heat and Mass Transfer in Turbulent Boundary Layers, organized by the Boris Kidric at the Institute of Nuclear Sciences in Belgrade. This meeting was the culmination of activities initiated by a group of leading scientists in the field from different countries. These activities resulted from a long felt need to create an international organization in the fast growing field of heat and mass transfer. Some of the most prominent names in the field who were involved in the founding and creation of the Centre were: E.A. Brun, E.R.G. Eckert, U. Grigull, J.P. Hartnett, T.F. Irvine, Jr., S.S. Kutateladze, A.V. Luikov, W.M. Rohsenow, D.B. Spalding, and M.A. Styrikovich. The active participation and efforts of D. Velickovic, Z. Zaric and N. Afgan from the Serbian Academy of Sciences and the Boris Kidric Institute of Nuclear Sciences in Belgrade made the founding of the Centre possible.

The Secretariat of the Centre remained in Belgrade for almost 24 years and traditionally organized one seminar and one symposium a year, usually in Dubrovnik, Yugoslavia, until early 1990s when the start of the political turmoil in former Yugoslavia unavoidably hampered the functioning of the Secretariat. The Executive Committee of the Centre started looking for a new home for the Secretariat of the Centre.

Professor Sadik Kakac, a member of the Scientific Council representing Turkey, with the encouragement of Professor Yasuo Mori, the President of ICHMT, and Professor Franz Mayinger, the Chairman of the Executive Committee, contacted Professor Kemal Guruz, Head of TUBITAK (Scientific and Technical Reaserach Council of Turkey), and Professor Suha Sevuk, President of METU (Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey), and urged them to prepare a joint proposal. These efforts took more than a year. In September 1992, the proposals from institutions in seven countries were examined at an Executive Committee meeting in Rome, and it was decided, with a majority vote, that the joint proposal of METU and TUBITAK, could provide the best financial and administrative support to the Centre. Since January 1993, the Centre has restarted its activities in its new home, the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey, under the joint auspices of these institutions, METU and TUBITAK.

The Statutes and the By-Laws of the Centre were revised, partly in response to the move to Turkey. At the meetings of the General Assembly and of the Scientific Council in Brighton, England in August, 1994, Professor Faruk Arinç, a faculty member at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of METU, was elected as the new Secretary General of the Centre. He was  re-elected to this office at the succeeding Scientific Council meetings held in every four years during International Heat Tranfer Conferences (IHTC).

The new Secretariat working under the new rules with renewed enthusiasm and support of the Executive Committee as well as the two standing sponsors of the Centre in Turkey, organized highly successful meetings since 1994, and sponsored many others elsewhere. The venues of the meetings in Turkey were chosen to be five-star hotels on the Aegean or Mediterranean coast, providing excellent settings for scientific as well as social gathering of all attendees and spouses. ICHMT also organizes meetings in countries other than Turkey, chaired by prominent researchers in the field. The traditional activity of ICHMT is organization the International Symposia and Seminars. These meetings have been always met with increasing interest by the scientific, technical and industrial communities. The general scope of the meetings has always been designed with the aim of active promotion of interesting scientific work and achievements at high technical levels.

The Centre has published over 80 Proceedings on various specific aspects of heat and mass transfer. Each proceeding is related to a meeting of the Centre. International participation in the meetings is always a major aim. The total number of participants in the meetings of ICHMT since 1968 has been over 5000, coming from over 60 different countries.

In order to promote the international activities of the Centre and reach as many scientists and researchers as possible in the field, the Centre signed a publication agreement with the publisher, Begell House, Inc., in 1994, since when Begell House has been printing and distributing the scientific work of ICHMT. In addition, the Proceedings of the Biotransport-98, Plasma-99, Turbine-2000 and Vim-2001 symposia were published in the Annals of New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS) in accordance with a separate agreement signed between the Centre and the Academy. In June 2006, the agreement between ICHMT and Begell House, Inc. was renewed and expanded to include the creation of an ICHMT Digital Library Online (http://dl.begellhouse.com/references/1bb331655c289a0a.html).

As emphasized in our Mission Statement, the Centre aims not only to provide attractive meeting occasions for all scientists active in the field, but also to foster international exchange of science and engineering in all branches of heat and mass transfer through the promotion of research, education, and the exchange of personnel. With this purpose of existence in mind, the Centre aims to be a reliable and state-of-the-art source of information in all its publications, and to create the means for generating international synergy, enthusiasm, and motivation among the scientists and researchers that will lead to new ideas, procedures, products, and standards to improve productivity and efficiency and to promote living in a cleaner environment.

The membership in the Centre is open to all non-governmental, non-profit, national and international organizations working in the field of heat and mass transfer. The number of member institutions of the Centre is now over 40 from 30 different countries.

One activity initiated by the Secretariat of the Centre in 1994 was the creation of the ICHMT Home Page on the Internet. This site is constantly updated, and has now grown to a significant size. It is being accessed by scientists all over the world.
